Yes…It’s Chicken Little and his gang. I designed and Illustrated this piece for a contest SCBWI was holding. It’s one of my favorite pieces.
Below the feathery gang is another piece for a contest that SCBWI held.
Okay…the mouse steals the scene. Silly is one way to describe this piece—as well as me.
Our brainy pig has dreams just like our friend Orville. His added propeller-hat adds that special something if things should go south.
What’s not to love! The name says it all. Grump is one of those wee sketches that I immediately fell in love with like Elsie. Story will soon follow….
Every time I look at this piece I can’t help but smile. It was a joy to work on—from the expressions, to the fun color-play that the lights produced.
Elsie is my ‘first-child’ project. A children’s picture book project that I both wrote, and illustrated. Little Elsie started as a wee, little sketch with no story to support her. But something from that wee sketch grew in my mind. A curiosity, starting from the word “why”. Why…was she holding an éclair? And what’s with her cute, blue, stuffed-dog side kick? I’m very proud of what I’ve done, and how Elise has grown. I hope that she brings you joy. She has brought me joy, and taught me how to grow in so many ways.
Ah, my friend Orville. Adore this clever little guy! You might have already guessed “why” I called him Orville—he just didn’t look like a Wilbur.
Here he is…ready to warm, and sweeten your heart. Coffee lovers will undoubtedly understand his wide smile.
Welcome to my youthful, yet fun crowd. Started these designs many years ago with a crayon in my hand, while my sweet toddler went down for a nap.
Funny story, (well…NOW; not so much then): While drawing, and finished with a design, and my toddler asleep, I decided to check on the laundry. When I came back to my sketchbook, I found bold, red, scribbled strokes had been added across my newly finished design—a red crayon sat lonely upon the page. —That was one of my first lessons as a new mom with a toddler in the house. When stepping away from your artwork…MOVE ARTWORK TO HIGHER GROUNDS!!
